| Studying for your engineering
courses |
| |
| Taking engineering courses can be a
very traumatic, personality-changing experience. |
| It takes so much time to decipher the
textbook, the lectures are usually confusing and you get stuck when
trying to solve the problems. |
| The next thing that you do is to build a mountain of
information: more textbooks, study-guides, searching for internet
literature. |
| Before you know it, you spend most of
your time, trying to organize all your information, instead of solving
problems and learning
the material. |
| Then you get stuck in a quagmire of
information and information-overload sets in. |
| It takes hours to study and with heavy
course-loads, work and family pressures, the outcome is always the
same: |
| You fall behind, you run out of time,
and you go into " putting-out-the-fires " mode. |
| The next semester, you resolve to study
on a regular basis, to read the textbook before class, to turn in homeworks on
time, to study for your exams weeks before, |
| and you will never pull all-nighters
again. |
| After a few weeks into the next
semester, you end up falling into the same pattern. |
| Then when you try to recall your
information from previous semesters, it is not there, you cant remember
anything, as if you never took the prior courses. |
| And you wonder what happened. |
| |
| In the live Problem-solving class, you can
do most of your studying for your course in two weekly, 2-hour study
sessions |
| Study in an engineering course for only
4 hours a week ? You sometimes spend 4 hours
on just one problem ! |
| The study format of the live
Problem-solving
class is ideal for mature
engineering students with jobs and families, and who have limited study
time available. |
| In the live Problem-solving class, you learn very efficient problem-solving
procedures, which replace hours of reading of the textbook. |
| When you read a textbook or attend
engineering lectures, you really are trying to learn two things: |
| 1. what are the equations |
| 2, how do I apply the equations |
| This is what our problem-solving
procedures give you; in a few minutes we summarize what would take hours
and hours of reading. |
| You can spend your valuable study-time
solving problems and learning the material, instead of spending hours
reading texts, classnotes and study-guides. |
|
Here is a quick sample of a
problem-solving procedure |
| After learning the efficient procedures,
you will learn the material by hand-solving problems, along the way we
incorporate homework, which you will solve yourself. |
| The study sessions are
not extra work; they replace the studying which you would normally do,
but in a much more efficient way. |
| One hour in the study
session is equivalent to 5 to 10 hours of studying by yourself. |
| |
| The improvements in engineering
students performance in their course-work has been unbelievable |
| We invented the
R-I-M-S tm
and
S-I-M-S
tm Problem-solving methods in 1986, which we have applied and refined in
our Problem-solving classes, with incredible results. |
| Thousands of engineering
students have been trained by these methods in our live Problem-solving classes since 1986. The students spanned
the entire spectrum. |
| High gpa students have become even
better students. |
| Marginal students became strong
students. |
| Weak students, and students at risk of
probation thrived in this format and were able to graduate. |
| Students who actually had dropped out of
the engineering program, heard about our Problem-solving classes, signed up,
and used the Problem-solving classes to structure their studying |
| for most of their course-work, these
students have since graduated and are
now accomplished Pe-licensed engineers with succesful engineering
careers. |
| |
| |
| Here is typical feedback from a
former student ( thousands of engineering students have had the same
response to the Problem-solving classes ) |
I took 5 or 6 Problem-solving classes with
Ensys for my civil engineering degree while attending UCF. Without the
Ensys courses I probably would not have completed my degree. I was
working full time and attending school part time. The Ensys courses
essentially replaced the school course work. I did not study any notes
from class or even attended lectures. I just studied the Ensys courses.
They are fabulous! The Ensys courses are the most complete
Problem-solving
classes I have ever seen. I believe the Ensys courses have a 100% pass
rate. Another engineer in my firm has taken (and passed) the FE with the
Ensys system. He had only positive things to say about the course.
Good luck in your endeavors.

Overview of the live Problem-solving class |
| |
| The live Problem-solving class is designed for
the student to develop a high level of proficiency by hand-solving 500
problems in the engineering subject. |
| Each problem teaches a different aspect
of the theory. |
| Students develop greatly improved
problem-solving skills, comprehension of concepts and better long-term
retention. |
| The class runs for one semester, for 64
contact hours, and meets on a regular schedule for the entire semester,
meeting every week for two problem-solving sessions. |
| The two sessions replace / integrate
lectures, studying lecture-notes, reading textbooks, problem-solvers,
reference material, practicing problems, doing homework, |
| attending informal study-groups,
visiting the instructor’s office, attending Problem-solving labs or working
with homework help services. |
| In the live Problem-solving sessions, the theory is
presented using step-by-step procedures, followed by problems which are
sequenced in difficulty-level.
